Annual
Convention
In March, the SDFA sponsors their annual convention. The convention
is the location of the annual Board of Directors meeting. The March
timing of the convention is a great way to refresh oneself after the
busy Valentine’s Day holiday and the design show provides new
ideas for the upcoming spring and summer holidays and wedding and
event work. Nationally recognized designers come to the convention
and offer new perspectives on trends, design and product use. Also,
the convention features a trade fair where florists are able to visit
booths set up by area wholesalers. The highlight of the convention
is the SDFA annual banquet. The banquet provides an interesting opportunity
for members of SDFA to meet and socialize with each other in a professional
yet festive setting.
Free
Fall Seminar
Every fall, the SDFA hosts its annual Free Fall Seminar. The seminar
is provided free of charge to member florists and is an excellent
opportunity for florists to get together to discuss the floral industry
and network. A highlight of the Free Fall Seminar is the design show.
Nationally recognized designers come to the seminar and provide new
perspectives on design, products available and popular styles and
trends. Another highlight is the Round Table discussions. Many topics
are discussed and ideas are shared, it is a great way for area florists
to share experiences and solve problems with the help of others in
similar situations. The Free Fall Seminar is also when the South Dakota
Certified Florist test is administered.
South
Dakota Certified Florist
SDFA offers a certification program for interested florists. The florist
pays for an educational packet that provides them with all the information
to study for the test. The testing is conducted at the Free Fall Seminar.
The test is a two part test consisting of a written examination and
a practical examination. Those who meet the requirements of the test
will be recognized in the annual induction ceremony at the Annual
Convention. The certification program increases professionalism in
the industry, and builds the confidence and self esteem of the certified
florist. Florists that meet the requirements are able to use the initials,
SDCF on all professional correspondence.
Membership
Directory
The membership directory is published yearly and features the names,
addresses and other shop information of all the florists in SDFA.
The membership directory is a handy “guide book” of all
the SDFA member florists. It will become a valuable resource in your
shop.
The
Pasque
The Pasque is the quarterly publication produced by SDFA. The Pasque
is a great way for florists to catch up on the happenings of SDFA
and to become informed of upcoming events and to see the highlights
of past SDFA events.
