South Dakota Certified Florist Program

SDCF Testing Application

The SDCF certification program was established in 1997. In order to become a certified florist one must successfully complete the written and practical application test administered by the education committee of the association. When you apply to test for the program you have made a commitment to achieve individual excellence within the floral industry. Upon successfully passing this examination you will be presented with a certificate of certification and will join a select group of professionals who are recognized as South Dakota Certified Florists.

Guildlines

  • Applicant must be registered before August 1st to test in October
  • Cost is $450 which includes study materials, flowers and supplies for testing
  • Must be paid for in advance
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, a person may retest the following year
  • A charge of $75 for retesting will be accessed
  • Test consists of two phases: written and practical
  • Must pass both phases to be certified
  • The designs will be evaluated by three judges
  • Successful applicants will be inducted at the annual meeting in March

SDFA Annual Scholarship
This is a Scholarship that is worth $500. It is funded by SDFA’s Educational Wing. Scholarship applications are available at any SDFA event or from the Scholarship Chairman. This scholarship is open to any SDFA member or current employee of a SDFA member. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is January 1st of any year. This award must be spent on any floral design class, horticulture class or testing for SDCF and used within one calendar year. The Scholarship Committee will choose the recipient before the January meeting of the Board of Directors and will announce the decision at that meeting. The recipient will then be invited to the annual meeting in March, where he or she will receive recognition for the award. The check will be directly sent to the school or organization involved by the SDFA Treasurer.

SDFA – Southeast Technical Institute Annual Scholarship
This is a Scholarship that is worth $500. It is funded by SDFA’s Educational Wing. Scholarship applications are available at any SDFA event or from the Scholarship Chairman; it can also be applied for through the STI. This scholarship is open to any SDFA member or a current employee of a SDFA member, as well as any of the general public of South Dakota. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is January 1st of any year. This award must be used for one of the Floral Study Classes or one of the Horticulture Classes at Southeast Technical Institute and used within one calendar year. It will be promoted by SDFA and the advancement team at STI to all of the High Schools in the state. This scholarship can be found on-line at www.southeasttech.com and can be applied for through the website. The Scholarship Committee will choose the recipient before the January meeting of the Board of Directors and will announce the decision at that meeting. The recipient will then be invited to the annual meeting in March, where he or she will receive recognition for the award. The check will be directly sent to the school by the SDFA Treasurer.

Koehler and Dramm Institute of Floristry – SDFA Scholarship
This is a Scholarship that is worth the cost of a class. It is funded by Koehler and Dramm Institute of Floristry. Instruction is provided by Ardith Beveridge, AIFS, PFCI, AAF, SDCF. Scholarship applicants are available at any SDFA event or from the Scholarship Chairman. This scholarship is open to any SDFA member or a current employee of a SDFA member. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is January 1st of any year. This award must be spent on a class at the Koehler and Dramm Institute of Floristry within one calendar year. The Scholarship Committee will choose the recipient before the January meeting of the Board of Directors and will announce the decision at that meeting. The recipient will then be invited to the annual meeting in March, where he or she will receive the award.
